The Electrical Training Program, the first phase of the Construction Trades Program, is designed for students working as electricians who want to prepare for the state certification exam. Preliminary planning is underway for additional construction trades courses.

CT 170 -- Electrical Fundamentals

Skills Advisories: MATH 1; Eligibility for ENG 100, 103.
One of three courses to prepare students with electrical work experience for the electrician certification exam. Materials, demonstrations and lectures explaining the fundamental principles of common electrical systems for residential and commercial occupancies. Practical examples of electrical phenomena provide the basis for further blueprints and their application in new and remodel work. Conveys mathematics applicable to electrical system design and construction; and electrical code application.

CT 180 -- Electrical Motors
(3) F -- CSU
Skills Advisories: Eligibility for ENG 100, 103.
Materials, demonstrations and lectures to convey a general understanding of electrical motor function and applications. Practical installation design demonstrated, including start-stop stations, switching circuits and safety switches. All materials reflective of current National Electrical Code requirements. Article 430 of the Code thoroughly reviewed. Moderate reading and problem-solving is assigned.

One of three courses to prepare students with electrical work experience for the electrician certification exam, extending from simple design and use of National Electrical Code, to complex electrical requirements.
