AFM at Sears Point April 17-18, 2004 Friday ------ Catch the tail end online of some inter-team drama that leaves me grumbly instead of concentrating on what I have to do this weekend. Grrrrrr. Load up and make the 7 hour drive up to Sears Point where a kindly guard let's me into the paddock even though it's well past midnight. Set up the pit, hop into the trailer and thank Steve once again for giving me that space heater (Brrrr). Saturday -------- We only got three practice sessions and I'm running about the same lap times as last year even though they've reverted to the original turn 1 and I should be running a little faster. Damn. Then Jeff Frost and I almost get booted for attempting to walk the track that evening. Apparently, Sears Point has banned track walks for some reason that nobody can explain but, the track's gonna enforce the hell out of it. Grumble. With my typical Saturday evening routine trashed I set about bloodying my fingers sewing a pirelli patch onto my leathers. I kept waiting for it to get dark so I can go to bed but, as time goes by and I'm too exhausted to keep my eyes open I finally notice that the light coming through the windows is from the stadium lights in the paddock. Grumble - must get curtains for the trailer. Sunday ------ Ran a few hundred laps in my head overnight and come out for Sunday practice setting lap times (1:54's) that put me right up in there. It looks like the whole front row is running within a couple tenths of each other! Then it starts raining, harder and harder. After huddling under the EZ-up for a few hours the AFM finally gives up and officially cancel racing for the day. Damn. Make the 7 hour drive back home while jonesing for my fix. Damn damn. :)
