CCS at Streets of Willows 5/31-6/1 Saturday -------- Wahoo! I beat my best time from February by almost 10 seconds the first time out. I dunno what's been going on the last couple of races but, I like it! My electrical gremlins from last time came back. This is getting to be some sort of Willows Springs tradition. After running off the track when the motor cut out and wouldn't come back on I pulled into the pits. Adam Fernandes came over and we pulled the bike apart and we seemed to get it all sorted out. Yahoo! After practice, I told a couple buddies that I was gonna head into town and grab a pizza and next thing I knew the car was packed and we were at some Mexican Restraunt. Neat! When we got back, I went out to walk the track. I thought that Streets had the worst stretch of pavement I'd ever seen back in February and it's only gotten worse. The pot holes were bigger and deeper and I hadn't realized how bad the pavement was. For example, there's ruts in the bowl that have gotten so deep that it looks like a stair case. My poor razor scooter didn't have the ground clearance to roll over most of the track. Eeep. When it got dark we loaded up and drove out to "Budweiser Corner" on the big track to watch the Porshe Owner's Club 4-hour endurance race. Sunday ------ Morning practice went poorly - it was like I forgot everything I learned from Saturday and I was charging all the corners in an uncontrolled attempt to find some more time. Shame on me! After running off the track in turn 2 (a real popular crash spot this weekend) I finally managed to force myself to calm down and just concentrate on putting together a smooth lap. In the race I got the pole position, in front of the Open Singles, Middleweights and the GP bikes. I was excited to see what it was like to lead a race but those GP bikes blew by me in the start like I was standing still! Oh well, I just put my head down and concentrated on my race since I wasn't technically competeing against them anyway. Unfortunatley, it was kind of a boring race as I had a few second lead on the next guy and the two GP bikes in front of me were far enough ahead that I was gonna play with them either but, it certainly wasn't for lack of trying! However, the 9 laps passed more or less without too much excitement and I got another first place. I still need to work on body positioning, 'cause I still look crossed up in some of the photos, and looking further down the track.
