QUICK RAMBLING NOTES -------------------- I loaded up the new trailer and drove the fifteen hours out to Firebird East. Surprising things: 1. You have to drive accross the race track to get into/out of the pits 2. They lock up the gates at the end of the event 3. They don't allow camping 4. The regular pits are also the "hot" pit. 5. The new trailer destroyed what fuel economy I had. $$$ Saturday ======== Tech made me cut the tips off of the one's on my number plates. CCS was running so far behind that we only got two practice sessions in and I was sucking pretty bad. The Security Gaurd let me stay overnight in my trailer in a sort of, "as long as I don't see you" deal. It rained all night. Sunday ====== CCS got started early enough that they could give us two practice sessions to make up for Saturday. In the first session I continued sucking so, I started running the track in my head and in the next session and I was much smoother. So much so that a couple of people came over and commented on how much quicker I seemed. Yahoo! Then the sky let loose. While we were lining up at pre-grid everyone was looking nervously at each other and at the track which was drenched and flooding. In the warm-up lap several of the other riders looked alot more timid than I felt about being in this much rain. I started in row 7 and got a good start. I wonder if I'm finally getting the hang of this starting thing? We'll see next week at the first AFM race. Anyway, it was slippery and slow but I came in fourth overall and first in my class. The next race out was when it really let loose - the entire track & pits were submereged under two inches of water. The water was washing across the track, into the pits and back out onto the track again. I heard reports that the wind reached 50 knots. It was freakin' biblical! The rest of the races were cancelled. I grabbed my gear and started the very long drive home - I pulled in about 7:30 AM Monday morning. CCS racers & staff are good folks.
