For those wondering how to install an ignition advancer, here's how it goes:

  1. Remove the lower fairing and take enough bolts out of the right side upper so that you can pull it out enought to work under it.

  2. Find the ignition cover, it's the one that says, "Suzuki" on it and remove the 5 allen bolts that hold it on.

  3. Carefully remove the cover and try not to damage the gasket. You now see the advancer, which is the little silver disk in the center.

  4. Remove the advancer using an allen wrench and a 19mm wrench.

  5. Install the new advancer in place of the stock part.

Here is the aftermarket advancer next to the stock piece and the advancer retaining bolt:

And here is the new advancer installed:

  6. Reinstall the gasket, cover, and cover bolts. It is best to use a new gasket, but if your old one comes off without damage you might be able to reuse it.

  7. Start the bike and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks. If it leaks, find the cause and correct it.

  8. Put your fairing back on and ride that puppy! After your finished riding, check the area once again for leaks.
That's it. It is an easy job. It took me longer to remove and reinstall the fairings than it did to swap the advancer. As far as tools, you'll need a set of metric alan wrenches and a 19mm wrench. Both V&H and Factory make advancers for theKats and you can get them from most retailers (MAW, Dennis Kirk, Chapparell, Parts411.com, etc).

I haven't put many miles on yet with the advancer, but IMHO, the difference was very noticable. The bike seems to run smoother at all RPM's, but especially down low. There also seems to be a bit more punch at lower RPM's and the bike does warm up quicker. All told, I think its certainly worth the $50.
